The Star Church History
We began meeting in the summer of 1963, during the heart of the Civil Rights Movement, at the home of Lucy Berry in the Brown Springs Community of Eastlake. We’ve had four pastors, which include: Rev. Sam King (1963-1967), Rev. R.S. Brown (1967-1975), Rev. Dr. Tommy Chappell (1975-2010), and Dr. Thomas Beavers (2010-present), who is the grandson of Dr. Chappell.
God has grown us to a community of 6000+ encompassing four Alabama campuses in Birmingham, Pell City, Sylacauga, and Forestdale. Our mission is two-fold. We exist to know Christ and make him known to the entire world and to help people have access to a better quality of life on earth via education, financial literacy, workforce development, housing, recreation, and the church.
